Hailey Hechtman is a creative, intentional and purpose-driven social impact leader with a passion for co-creative team development, strength-based program implementation and collective impact. She has 10 years of experience working in the social services sector with an aim for promoting thoughtful leadership and aligned decision-making for mental wellness, disability, and youth organizations. She is a strong communicator with a background in direct service provision that recognizes both the importance of a big-picture perspective and a practical, hands-on philosophy towards creating sustainable change. Some of her career highlights include founding the Yukon Distress & Support Line, establishing the Yukon Inter-Agency Network on Disability, creating standardized narrative reporting processes for the Yukon Government and spearheading the Learning Essential Support Skills Online (LESSON) program. She recently moved back to Ottawa and has begun her exciting next chapter as the Executive Director for Causeway Work Centre where she can continue to pursue her passion for supporting meaningful community engagement, partnerships and person-centered planning. In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Vanessa Ferro. Vanessa is the principal designer and owner at Vanessa Ferro Design. I started the business approx 5 years ago. I always did design work unofficially for friends, family and myself.  But most of my working life was actually in the financial industry working down on Bay St, on an investment team. This really wasn’t really my passion however. When my 2nd son was born he was very ill.  We spent most of his first 2 years back and forth to Sick Kids Hospital. Once he was better (he is 100% now) my husband and I decided it was time for some big changes.  We decided to leave the city (and house we just reno’d) and go build our dream house up north in king township. One thing lead to another and over a few years my design business just organically grew. In a way I feel that out of the stress and hardship of my son’s illness came this wonderful new opportunity….a new life in the country, an “almost” dream home (that’s another story :) and my design business. My trainer at the gym always reminds me that “challenge means change”.  She is talking about my approach to exercise and diet, however I think you can apply it in many areas of your life. In this episode we discuss personal struggle, changing course, learning, passion, interior design, gratitude and second chances.

I started Spiral right after my family bakery shut down due to Covid. Back at the bakery I was doing all the behind the scenes from managing the stores, doing all the special media, taste testing for new menus, taking cake orders, the list goes on! I loved Sorelle and Come out!  (the bakery) with a burning passion. So when Sorelle shut down, I was devastated and decided to put that energy and passion into something of my own! Spiral started from me making custom tie dye clothing to now me creating my own women’s comfort and lifestyle brand! The evolution of my brand happened naturally and purposely from a place of passion! I love creating something that people love and find enjoyment in and I want to bring happiness within my brand! I also want to create a community to empower women and motivate one another! One of our main goals is to provide the more comfortable and best quality products available! It is also important for us to raise awareness of homelessness in Toronto and across the world! We donate a portion of every sale made to Youth Without Shelter in Toronto. We can all use a helping hand in tough situations and I believe raising awareness on this topic is important! Currently, I am living with the love of my life in Orange County with my bonus kids and our puppies while beginning my new journey as a motivational speaker, author and Entrepreneur.   I have manifested the life I always dreamed of but it's happened through passionate self-care, trusting my intuition and being a seeker/open to new ways of thinking and living. I have always had a deep sense of trust in the universe and that everything happening in my life was for my best and highest.  I began my career at broadcast.com ( after being on a triple cast show called Nettalklive where I was the "chat chick" who talked about chatting on the internet back in 1996 )  I got my first career job working at broadcast.com for Mark Cuban where Stan Woodward had the intuition to hire me even though I didn't pass the usual test for salespeople that were normally hired.   This began me seeing how if one boss believes in you it can be life-changing.  I went on work for Stan at another company which then led me to work in advertising sales from 2007 - 2019. In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Lisette Kingo. Born in Sweden to an entrepreneur and war survivor - I never had much family around. Most were murdered in the war. We came to Canada in search of family. Here i modeled and worked in coffe shops and eventually as a private investigator for many years. ( sat on the board for crime stoppers ) Studied psychology at university Of western. I have always been an empath and self-starter.  After I was married. I finally pregnant but I was brutally assaulted and lost the child. We were broke my husband was just getting his Canadian work visa. This was a difficult time. This is when I started the angel project. No one should have to feel that alone. Kingo couture was founded years later and quickly grew from a small import business to a larger distribution company. Working with Miss Universe, JCK luxury etc. the angel project grew bigger and bigger and we helped more people than ever. We began lobbying for patients and change. 7 years ago I became very ill. Eventually diagnosed with rare disease something I have become passionate about. But I never stopped fighting for those who need me. In fact that became my full time passion. Some of the latest accolades are that I am one of the few non rotarians to receive the Paul Harris fellow and humanitarian award first received by mother Theresa. The Canada 150 award etc. In this episode we discuss intuitive coaching, intuition, awakenings, listening to the universe when it speaks to you, generational patterns and love over fear.
